K'taka Cong chief seeks 3 days time to form Govt Monday, May 24 2004 13:56 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore:
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president B Janardhan Poojary today (May 24, 2004) met Governor T N Chaturvedi and sought three days' time for formation of the Government in the State by his party, which is negotiating with the JD-S (Janata Dal-Secular) for a coalition.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the Governor, Poojary said that he was personally in favour of adopting the 'Maharashtra model' of coalition in Karnataka and a proposal in this regard had been made to the party high command.
In Maharashtra, the Congress, as the bigger partner, is heading the coalition Government and has left the Deputy Chief Minister's post to its junior partner, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The Congress-JD-S talks for the last few days have centered around this issue.
Replying to a query, Poojary said, "As a last resort, we may sit in the Opposition."
