Pillay, Jugraj in probables list for Olympics Monday, May 24 2004 13:42 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Star forward Dhanraj Pillay and struggling-to-be fit-penalty corner expert Jugraj Singh were today (May 24, 2004) named in the 26-member hockey probables list for the forthcoming Athens Olympics.
Announcing the list, Indian Hockey Federation president K P S Gill said the probables would attend a few training camps - in the USA, Holland and Germany - besides playing in a couple of four-nation tournaments in the build-up to the mega event at Athens.
Pillay's omission from the fitness camp at Barog, Himachal Pradesh and a four-nation meet in Japan had created a lot of furore, but curtains came down over the controversy when Gill said that the mercurial forward was being "preserved" for the Olympics.
