Cong-JDS to work out a CMP for Karnataka Tuesday, May 25 2004 14:34 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore:
With the prospect of formation of a Congress led coalition Government with Janata Dal Secular (JDS) support becoming a certainty in Karnataka both the parties would have a Common Minimum Programme (CMP), All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary
Vilasrao Deshmukh indicated today (May 25, 2004).
Deshmukh, who is in charge of Congress affairs in the State said that both the parties would work under a CMP.
He said that a clear picture on the composition of the coalition would emerge only after a meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Earlier in the day, Deshmukh called on the newly elected Congress Legislature Party leader, Dharm Singh, tipped to be its Chief Ministerial candidate to head the first ever coalition Government in the State, where the electorate have thrown up a verdict for hung Assembly.
Deshmukh, Singh and other prominent Congress leaders were expected to leave for Delhi this evening.
JDS leaders including former Prime Minister H D Devegowda, the party's legislature party leader Siddaramaiah would also visit the national capital for consultations with Sonia Gandhi.
The JDS was making a last ditch effort to persuade Congress to accept its demand that the new coalition arrangement should be led by it with Siddaramaiah, as the Chief Minister.
