Musharraf invites Sonia Gandhi to visit Pakistan

New Delhi: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf today (May 25, 2004) spoke to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and congratulated her on the election victory while inviting her to visit Pakistan.

During the five-minute telephonic conversation, he assured her of Pakistan's commitment to peace between the two countries and requested Gandhi to give her support to the dialogue process, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said.

Gandhi thanked Musharraf for his greetings and recalled that Congress had supported the Vajpayee Government's efforts in this regard and that it is in favour of the peace process.

Musharraf recalled his conversation with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the latter's positive support to the dialogue process.

The Pakistan President extended an invitation to Gandhi to visit Pakistan, Sarna said.
