Lt Col of Army Medical Corps shot dead in Bihar

Patna: A Lt Col of the Army Medical Corps was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the Danapur Cantonment area on the outskirts of the State capital today (May 25, 2004).

Deputy superintendent of police, Danapur, Anwar Hussain said three gunmen stopped the motorbike of Lt Col Surendra Roy posted at the Military Hospital, Bikaner, who was riding to visit a relative of his in Danapur.

The gunmen shot dead Lt Col Roy, who was on leave, on Gola Road and fled with his motorbike, he said.

Tension was running high in the area.

Senior police officials including city SP, Amrit Raj, were camping at the spot.

Raids were being made to apprehend the killers.

The body of Lt Col Roy was taken to the medical hospital, Danapur. His relatives had been informed, the DSP said.

He had earlier said that Roy was a major in the Bihar regimental centre.
