Bhisham K Agnihotri, India's Ambassador at Large for people of Indian origin
New York: India's 'Ambassador at Large' for people of Indian origin (PIO) Bhisham K Agnihotri has sent in his resignation from the post, following defeat of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led coalition, which appointed him three years ago.

A non-resident Indian (NRI) businessman based in New York, Agnihotri had announced his decision to quit soon after the general election results were declared on May 13.

He had met former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on May 14 in New Delhi to convey his decision to resign.

Agnihotri, whose appointment had caused considerable stir among Foreign Service officials, sent in his papers after reaching New York following an official visit to Mauritius.
