Mizo CM asks others to take over facilitator role Friday, May 28 2004 12:31 Hrs (IST)
Aizawl:
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga who brokered peace deals with the naga rebels and other Northeast insurgents during the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) regime today (May 28,2004) said that he would be relieved of a great burden if other persons take over his role as a facilitator.
Reacting to a plethora of statements made by Congress leaders including former State Chief Minister and PCC chief Lal Thanhawla, the former rebel leader-turned-Chief Minister said that what he cherished most was bringing peace into the insurgency-torn region.
Zoramthanga told that he wanted peace and that if other persons, not him, could deliver it, he welcomed it.
''I did not want to counter what some of the leaders said me, but what I wanted to say is that running a State is a tough job even without being distracted by other engagements,'' he said.
''It would be a great relief without being involved in the peace processes if and when some people objected to it,'' he firmly said.
He said that some politicians might say anything, but he was asked by both the Centre and the insurgent outfits to become interlocutor in bringing peace to the insurgency-hit
Northeast.
Former State Chief Minister and PCC chief Lal Thanhawla commented to media persons here that unconditional talks between the Centre and the Naga rebels was a political blunder and that Zoramthanga should not be involved in the peace process any longer.
