Infiltration has not stopped completely, says Patil Saturday, May 29 2004 14:51 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Asserting that infiltration has not stopped completely on the Indo-Pak borders, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today (May 29, 2004) said attack on Border security Force (BSF) convoy on Jammu-Kashmir national highway in which 29 personnel and their family members were killed was aimed at sabotaging the peace process.
"The attack might be to sabotage the peace process by the elements that do not want peace to prevail between the two neighbours," he said while visiting the injured BSF personnel undergoing treatment here at Safdarjung Hospital.
The security was under constant observation, he said adding that a single attack cannot derail the peace process.
When asked whether the country would be taking a proactive stance following the attack, he countered, "proactive doesn't only mean the use of forces it also mean we will talk to them and build political and economic relations and would also use forces if necessary."
Replying to questions about infiltration on the Indo-Pak border, Patil said, "In some places it has decreased while in some it has increased. I do not want to issue certificates in that regard but it is our endeavour to stop it completely."
Replying to a question whether he would be visiting Kashmir, the minister said, "I would be visiting all places with proper preparation and not just for the sake of it."
