Chapra repoll: Five injured, 70 arrested in clash Monday, May 31 2004 16:09 Hrs (IST)

Five persons were today (May 31, 2004) injured in stray incidents of clashes and explosions during repolling in Bihar's Chapra Lok Sabha constituency where 70 people trying to create disturbance were arrested.
Four persons were injured in a clash between rival groups of villagers at a booth in Marhaura in the constituency where Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav is pitted against former Union Minister Rajiv Prasad Rudy.
One person suffered gun-shot injury in a clash between RJD and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters at Gopalpur tola, official sources said adding all the injured were admitted to hospital.
Superintendent of Police, Ajit Joy, said around 70 people were arrested for trying to create disturbances during the repoll and he also ordered arrest of RJD leader and Biscomaun chairman Sunil Singh for allegedly moving around in Sonepur.
Unidentified persons exploded bombs at Munnapur and Parauna in the Taraiya police station area to intimidate the voters, but were chased away by the securitymen.
Clashes were also reported from few booths under Sonepur and Marhaura assembly segments, they said adding that nobody was injured.
As many as 27 to 30 per cent voters exercised their franchise till afternoon in the constituency.
