Siachen case: Military court overrules objections Monday, May 31 2004 20:50 Hrs (IST)
Jodhpur:
The Military Court recording Summary of Evidence in the "fake" Siachen encounter case today (May 31 2004) overruled objections regarding presentation of new papers by the then Commanding Officer of Gorkha Rifles Col K D Singh during his deposition.
Disputing the authenticity of a letter presented in the court by Col Singh on his fourth day of deposition, Maj Surender Singh, who allegedly made the false claim of an encounter with Pakistani troops at Siachen last year, objected to production of "new papers", saying "what is the relevance of bringing papers now which were not presented before the Court of Inquiry (COI) in the case?"
However, presiding officer of the court Brig Philip Campose, overruled the objection saying that he was not concerned about the report of the COI because it was not before him. "How am I concerned with the Court of Inquiry?" he asked.
Continuing his deposition, Col Singh replayed the video clips in the court and described in detail as to how the images shown in them were "fake".
Not only the enemy target, claimed by Maj Singh as destroyed by his company, was blurred but no mule was seen in the pictures despite the fact that Pakistani side used the animal extensively. Mules are seen on all authentic video clip of other encounters. All these indicated that the video clips were fake, he said.
Maj. Singh had earlier questioned the understanding of Col. Singh about video technology and asked how he was saying that the video clips were fake.
