L K Advani elected as the leader of Opposition

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was today (Jun 1, 2004) elected chairman of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Parliamentary Party and former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani was elected Leader of the Parliamentary Party.

BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu announced this at a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Party.

The elections were unanimous.

Naidu also said that former Finance Minister Jaswant Singh would be the leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha.

Advani, who was elected leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party, will also be the Leader of the Opposition.

Jaswant Singh, who will be the Opposition Leader in Rajya Sabha, will also be the Deputy leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party.
