Intercity express derails in Assam, no casualties
Tuesday, June 1 2004 14:21 Hrs (IST)

Guwahati: Six coaches of the 5603 Up Guwahati-Ledo via Tinsukia Intercity Express today (Jun 1, 2004) derailed between Margherita and Ledo stations in Upper Assam's Tinsukia district.

There was no casualty or injury as the coaches were nearly empty as majority of the passengers had disembarked at Tinsukia, an N F Railway spokesman said. According to preliminary information the coaches from the rear jumped the tracks and the engine of the broad gauge line train was unaffected.

Ruling out sabotage, he said rains in the area might have caused the mishap. Police and railway officials were investigating the matter.

The few passengers who were in the train were taken to Ledo, the last station in the B G section in Upper Assam.
