Suresh Reddy elected new speaker of AP Assembly Tuesday, June 1 2004 15:04 Hrs (IST)

Senior Congress legislator from Telangana region K R Suresh Reddy was today (June 01 2004) unanimously elected speaker of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
Reddy's unanimous election to the post was announced by the pro-tem speaker P Sambasiva Raju as soon as the house assembled for the day.
Reddy, a four-time legislator representing Balkonda constituency in Nizamabad district, was escorted to the speaker's chair by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, leader of the Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu and senior ministers.
All the political parties supported the candidature of the 45-year-old Reddy and 18 sets of nominations were filed yesterday (May 31 2004) on his behalf.
