IIMs reach consensus, proposal to ministry on June 8
Sunday, June 6 2004 18:18 Hrs (IST)

Ahmedabad: The Directors of the six IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) today (Jun 6, 2004) reached a "consensus" on a uniform fee structure as recommended by Union HRD ministry and said a proposal in this regard will be presented to the ministry on June 8.

IIM Ahmedabad director Bakul Dholakia told mediapersons after a marathon meeting that all the directors would meet the secretary, HRD on June 8.

The directors also unanimously adopted a resolution for scholarships for needy students but refused to divulge the contents of the proposal.

Dholakia blankly refused to reply any "specific" questions related to the proposal or the fee structure saying, "Answers to these questions will have to wait."

"It is not mandatory to answer all questions. You will have to wait for some time," he shot back when faced with volley of questions.

Asked whether they would give any guidelines regarding to the proposal to the ministry, Dholakia said, "Not yet... we would like the ministry to see it first."

To a question if there were any differences between the IIMs that had acceded to the fee cut, the IIM director assured that there were no differences.

"All this is misleading information," he remarked.

All six directors were present at the press briefing.
