Govt may nominate Patil for talks with Hurriyat Sunday, June 6 2004 13:30 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Carrying forward the dialogue process initiated by the previous Government, the Centre is likely to nominate Home Minister Shivraj Patil to hold further round of talks with Hurriyat Conference and modalities for this are being worked out.
Indications in this regard emerged after the Centre's interlocutor N N Vohra held talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Patil over last two days.
The dialogue process which had been initiated by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government had seen two rounds of talks between then Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and Abbas Ansari-led Hurriyat.
The third round of talks, which was to be held this month-end as per an understanding between Advani and Hurriyat leaders at the second round of parleys in March, is likely to be delayed by about a fortnight.
"The exact date for the parleys will be worked out in a few days," highly-placed sources said.
The Centre's pointsman, who met the Prime Minister two days after being asked to continue in the post, briefed Singh about the latest situation in Jammu and Kashmir, they said.
Coordination Group, headed by Vohra and comprising top officials of various Central Government departments, also met here two days ago to deliberate on the modalities for pursuing the dialogue process.
Meanwhile, Patil has indicated that Government was willing to involve other separatist groups in the talks.
