K'taka CM convenes top-official meet over Cauvery Sunday, June 6 2004 20:19 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore:
Karnataka Chief Minister Dharam Singh has convened a top-level officials meeting tomorrow (Jun 7, 2004) to take stock of the situation arising out of Tamil Nadu's demand to the Centre to convene the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) meeting on the water sharing issue.
Speaking to reporters, Singh said that the meeting would also discuss "whether we have to meet the Prime Minister on the Cauvery issue".
He declined to comment on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's letter to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh seeking the CRA meeting to review the overall situation of the implementation of the interim orders of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal by Karnataka. "I am not telling anything".
Singh said that Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways T R Balu also spoke to him over phone today (Jun 6, 2004) and informed him that a delegation (led by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) would meet him in Bangalore on June 10 on the Cauvery issue.
While Jayalalithaa had dashed off a letter to Singh, the DMK, Congress, PMK (Pattali Makkal Katchi) and MDMK (Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) and Left parties held a meeting in Chennai yesterday (Jun 5, 2004) and decided to send a delegation of all MPs from Tamil Nadu to meet the Prime Minister to prevail upon Karnataka to release Cauvery water.
DMK president M Karunanidhi had also announced that a delegation would be sent to Bangalore also as a "first step" to get the Cauvery water.
