Cong-JDS still squabbling over portfolios in K'taka Monday, June 7 2004 19:13 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore:
As differences between the Congress and JDS (Janata Dal-Secular) over which party should hold the Home department persisted, the allocation of portfolios to new ministers in Karnataka was expected to be delayed by two more days, according to indications available in Bangalore.
While Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah (JDS) remained without portfolio even 11 days after being sworn-in, 10 others who took oath three days ago in the ministry expansion also awaited the departments they would have to manage.
Following hard bargaining between the Congress and JDS, the partners of the first coalition Government in Karnataka, 10 members--five each from both parties - - were inducted into the ministry on June 5.
Though Chief Minister N Dharam Singh had promised to allocate portfolios by Sunday (June 6), continued discussions on sharing of portfolios eluded a solution.
Meanwhile, Governor T N Chaturvedi, who holds additional charge of Kerala, left for the neighbouring State and is expected to return by tomorrow evening.
Singh, responding to a question, told reporters that he would shortly allocate the portfolios to new ministers.
