New Delhi: The Government proposed to repeal Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA), President A P J Abdul Kalam announced today (Jun 7, 2004).

"My Government is concerned about the misuse of POTA in the recent past. While there can be no compromise on the fight against terrorism, the Government is of the view that the existing laws could adequately handle the menace of terrorism. The Government, therefore, proposes to repeal POTA", he said.

The President stated this in his address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament.
