Mosul (Iraq):
Two car bombs exploded today (June 8, 2004) in the Northern city of Mosul, killing 10 and injuring 100 people, the US military said.
American forces raced to evacuate the wounded after the first explosion outside a local Government building and near a school in Mosul, 360 kilometers Northwest of Baghdad. Some of the victims were taken to a military combat support hospital in Mosul.
Body parts were hurled on the streets and nine vehicles were set on fire. The building was not damaged.
"We were driving in front of the school," said Khairi Ahmed Darweesh, who suffered shrapnel wounds. "Suddenly, I heard an explosion."
Witnesses saw three suicide bombers in an orange and white taxi, the US military said.
The second blast took place about 45 minutes later outside a coalition operating base. There was no word on casualties.
