Wednesday, June 9 2004 19:21 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: Two militants today (June 9, 2004) took shelter in a mosque after a gun battle with security forces in which one of their associates and a BSF (Border Security Force) jawan were killed in South Kashmir's Anantnag district.

Security forces laid siege to the mosque to flush out the holed up militants who were firing intermittently from the shrine, officials said.

Acting on specific information that some militants were hiding in a house in village Wohgund in Kulgam, some 75 kms from Srinagar, security forces raided the place.

The ultras opened fire on the raiding party and tried to flee, the officials said adding a militant and a BSF jawan were killed in the exchange of fire.

Two militants ran towards a nearby mosque and took shelter there, they said.
