CBI arrests Telgi in fresh stamp paper case Wednesday, June 9 2004 20:30 Hrs (IST)

In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam Abdul Karim Telgi in a fresh stamp case registered at Delhi, for further investigation.
The two member CBI team led by H S Chopra, Additional SP arrived in Pune this morning following the order passed by Metropolitan Magistrate Patiala court, Delhi, on June 7 allowing the CBI to interrogate Telgi and arrest him if necessary.
After the interrogation of Telgi in the morning at Yerwada central prison, the CBI arrested him and approached the Special Court for his transfer.
The Special court, then allowed CBI to take Telgi to Delhi following the application moved by CBI counsel Mohan Deshmukh seeking his custody.
The special judge S M Shembole directed the CBI to produce the kingpin Telgi to the special court, Pune on June 25.
The CBI Economic Offence Unit-5 is investigating the fake stamp paper case RC 2/2004 which was registered in Delhi.
The Special court, yesterday had extended the judicial custody remand of prime accused Telgi till June 25.
