Bangalore: A delegation of political leaders from Tamil Nadu led by former Irrigation Minister Dorai Murugan today (June10, 2004) called on Karnataka Chief Minister N Dharam Singh and requested for release of Cauvery water to help farmers take up Kuruvai crop.

The seven-member delegation held discussions with Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramiah and M Mallikarjun Kharge and presented a memorandum seeking water release.

Emerging from the meeting, Singh told reporters that the Government gave a patient hearing to the plea of the delegation, but no assurance was given.

Singh said, since the legislature session was in progress, the Government cannot commit itself on Tamil Nadu's demand and would take a decision taking the house into confidence.

The Chief Minister said the state would await the report of the Central team that visited the reservoirs of the Cauvery basin in Karnataka to assess the storage position and would Undertake a similar exercise in Tamil Nadu.

The official team, which visited the state yesterday, is expected to submit its findings on Saturday (Jun 12, 2004).
