Encounter ends in JK; 3 militants, one jawan killed Thursday, June 10 2004 18:27 Hrs (IST)

The stand off between militants holed up inside a mosque and BSF (Border Security Force) personnel ended after nearly 24 hours this afternoon with the killing of all the three ultras in the operation, which also left one jawan dead in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Two militants, who engaged security personnel in heavy exchange of fire from the Hazrat Syed Najab-ud-din Bukhari shrine were killed inside the complex at Wohgund village in
Kulgam, 75 kms from Srinagar, BSF Deputy Inspector General K Srinivasan told reporters.
One militant and a BSF personnel were killed yesterday when the gun battle broke out around 1.30 PM after security personnel raided the village on a tip off.
While the upper portion of the mosque, where the militants initially took refuge fleeing from the raiding BSF men, was completely damaged, the nearby shrine of Hazrat Syed
Najb-ud-din Bukhari, where the ultras shifted to this morning, suffered minor damage in the gun battle, Srinivasan, who supervised the operation, said.
