Ideal time to resolve JK issue, says Musharraf Thursday, June 10 2004 12:47 Hrs (IST)
Islamabad:
Asserting the time is now ideal for India and Pakistan to resolve all issues between them, President Pervez Musharraf has said sincerity, flexibility and boldness is required to find a "viable, genuine and lasting" settlement to the "central" Kashmir issue within a "reasonable time-line".
He said Kashmir issue was not a complex issue and the leaderships of both the countries have to show enough maturity, sincerity, develop confidence and trust in each other to settle it in "reasonable time-line".
"The leaders have to be flexible enough to reach mutually acceptable solutions to previously intractable dispute and bold enough to bulldoze all opposition and risks en route to peace," he said, adding the present time is ideal for resolution of all outstanding issues.
"I don't agree at all that it is such a complex issue which is unresolvable. Every one knows what is the matter, every one absolutely comprehends what is the solution," he said at a concluding session of a seminar on prospects of peace, stability and prosperity in South Asia last night (Jun 09, 2004).
Observing that India find Pakistan sincere and responsive for any initiative to improve relations, Musharraf said, "The issue of Kashmir is at centre-stage, we cannot deny it, it must be resolved in an equitable and honourable manner, acceptable to India, Pakistan and Kashmiris."
"If Pakistan and India can settle the Kashmir issue in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiris, a new chapter in our troubled history will undoubtedly begin with a win-win for all."
