Fire breaks in Kerala express, no casualties reported

Chennai: : A fire broke out in the brake van of the New Delhi bound Kerala express at Gudiyattam about 100 kms from Chennai disrupting traffic for about four hours in the busy Jolarpettain-Katpadi section in the wee hours of today (June 11, 2004).

A 24-year-old woman, who suffered injuries while getting down from the train, was admitted to the Vellore medical college hospital, railway police sources said.

Fire tenders from Katpadi, Vellore and Gudiyattom were summoned to the spot to put out the blaze, the sources said.

The fire broke out in the break van, carrying articles including cloth materials and rubber products, when the train was on the move.

The train finally left for New Delhi at about 0630 hrs (IST).
