New Delhi: The Samajwadi Party (SP) today (June 12, 2004) announced name of Jaya Bachchan, wife of "Big B" Amitabh Bachchan, and four other party leaders as its candidates from Uttar Pradesh for the Rajya Sabha elections.

The other candidates are UP Minister Bhagwati Singh and party leaders Ram Narayan Sahu, Nand Kishore Yadav and Kamal Akhtar, SP General Secretary Amar Singh said at a press conference.

The name of the sixth candidate would be announced later, he said.

The Upper House election to fill 65 vacancies from 15 states is scheduled for June 28.
