Saturday, June 12 2004 18:49 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Smarting from the stunning defeat in the just-concluded Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today (Jun 12, 2004) said the party's future was bright.

"BJP has come out of the shadow of the Lok Sabha defeat.. it (the loss) is not a major thing..the party's future is bright," the party national general secretary Pramod Mahajan said at Vidhan Bhavan.

The party will threadbare analyse the Lok Sabha verdict during its national executive in Mumbai, commencing June 22, and fine tune the strategy for the coming Assembly elections in States like Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh, Mahajan, who filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha, said.

Elaborating on the national executive programme, the BJP leader said it would kick start with the inaugural speech of the party president M Venkaiah Naidu and would conclude with the address of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha L K Advani and his counterpart in the upper house Jaswant Singh would also address the BJP delegates, participating in the conclave, he said.

The newly constituted national executive of the party is meeting for the first time after the Lok Sabha debacle and would ponder over the future challenges before the saffron party, he said.

To a query, Mahajan defended nominating Dilipsingh Judeo and Najma Heptullah for the Rajya Sabha.
