New Delhi: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh today (June 15, 2004) attended the Union Cabinet meeting amidst speculation that he is likely to become the next Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission.

Ever since the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government came to power at the Centre last month, the names of Singh, former Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna and noted economist Arjun Sengupta were doing the rounds for the prestigious post.

After the Manmohan Singh Government took over, K C Pant had tendered his resignation as the Deputy Chairman of the Commission.
