'BJP totally disagrees with VHP on leadership issue' Wednesday, June 16 2004 16:49 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore:
As VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) launched an offensive asking former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani to take "sanyas" BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) president M Venkaiah Naidu today (June 16, 2004) asserted the party was in "total disagreement" with VHP on the leadership issue.
"We are in total disagreement with the observations (made by VHP leaders) with regard to the BJP leadership of Vajpayee and Advani," Naidu told reporters, a day after the Sangh Parivar outfit's top leaders asked BJP to change its leadership and make way for "younger generation".
In an attack on Vajpayee and Advani, VHP president V H Dalmiya and working president Ashok Singhal had said yesterday that the policies of both leaders had been rejected by the people and "if BJP wants to think about its future, it should either change its policies or leadership".
Vajpayee had particularly come in for harsh criticism for his remarks on removal of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Gujarat riots, from both VHP leaders who said it had "humiliated" Hindus all over the country.
They had also blamed the BJP for behaving as the "B" team of Congress.
