PM speaks to K'taka CM over Cauvery water issue

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is understood to have spoken to Karnataka Chief Minister Dharam Singh over Tamil Nadu's demand for release of Cauvery water.

Sources said this followed a 45-minute meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs, chaired by Singh.

The Prime Minister was apprised of the situation in the Cauvery basin at the meeting of the CCPA, which was especially convened to discuss the Cauvery issue.

Those present at the meeting were Union Ministers Arjun Singh (HRD), Shivraj Patil (Home), Sharad Pawar (Agriculture), P Chidambaram (finance), Laloo Prasad (Railways) and Dayanidhi Maran (Communication and IT).
