Nuke leak alleged Akhtar handed to Mumbai police Friday, June 18 2004 11:47 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Akhtar Hussain Qutbuddin Ahmed, who was deported from Dubai for allegedly selling Indian nuclear secrets, was handed over to Mumbai police by security agencies last evening (Jun 17, 2004) after his marathon interrogation yielded nothing.
Akhtar was questioned by intelligence agencies continuously for four days after which they came to a conclusion that he did not possess any nuclear secrets, intelligence sources said.
35-year old businessman, who was deported on Saturday evening (Jun 12, 2004), continued to be under detention of Mumbai police and was likely to be released today (Jun 18, 2004) as there was no case made out against him.
Dubai police had claimed that Akhtar had allegedly approached some foreign missions there for selling Indian nuclear secrets.
The Dubai police had claimed on the basis of Akhtar's interrogation that his brother was working with some Indian nuclear establishment, which was denied by the Department of Atomic Energy.
