Bilkis: Guj Govt allows CBI to prosecute officials Friday, June 18 2004 10:32 Hrs (IST)

The Gujarat Government today (Jun 17, 2004) gave permission to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) to conduct proceedings against four policemen and two doctors who are accused in the Bilkis Banu alleged gang rape cum murder case of the post Godhra communal riot, official sources said.
The Government gave sanction to the CBI after the agency filed an application under CrPC 197 to conduct court proceedings against the Government servants.
It is mandatory for an investigating agency to get Government sanction before prosecuting a Government servant in any case, CBI advocate Abdul Rashid Sheikh said.
The CBI had sought permission to prosecute the four Gujarat policemen namely Ramsinh Bhabhor, Ransinh Bhagora, R B Patel and A I Saiyad and the doctor couple Sangita and Arunkumar Prasad.
The CBI had arrested all the six on separate occasions for tampering with evidence and conniving with the accused persons.
