Ahmedabad/Pune:
As the controversy raged over Ahmedabad shootout, Gujarat Police today (June 18, 2004) claimed to have evidence to prove the four persons killed were Lashker-e-Toiba terrorists and were in contact with their master in Dubai even as Pune Police claimed to have recovered CDs, including one on Gujarat riots, from the residence of one of the slain men.
In a related development, NHRC stepped in seeking a report from Gujarat Police on the encounter in six weeks even as the Centre said it was ready to order Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in view of the controversy if the State Government desired.
Shamima Jahan Sheikh, mother of Ishrat Jahan who was killed in the encounter along with Javed and two alleged Pakistani terrorists, was interrogated by Gujarat Police when she arrived in Ahmedabad from Mumbai to take possession of her daughter's body.
