No rollback of petro-products price hike: Aiyer
Friday, June 18 2004 14:53 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Notwithstanding the demand of the Left parties, Petroleum Minister Mani Shanker Aiyer today (June 18, 2004) asserted that there would be "no rollback" of the hike in petro-products prices.

"Ours is not a rollback Government. What has been decided has been implemented," he told on the sidelines of a workshop organised by the Kerala Institute of Local Administration.

Referring to criticism of his move from various quarters, Aiyer said: "Criticism has been muted".

Asked if the Left Front's opposition had more to do with political compulsions, he said: "I have no problem with mild criticism."

The minister, however, added that a comprehensive review of the crude oil policy would be undertaken soon.

Earlier, Left Front leaders met the Prime Minister and demanded a rollback in the hike.
