Portugal's SC refuses to extradite Abu Salem

Lisbon: Portugal's Supreme Court has overturned a decision by a lower Lisbon court to grant New Delhi's request for the extradition of Abu Salem, who is suspected of planning one of India's deadliest bomb attacks, Salem's lawyer said today (June 18, 2004).

Joao Nabais, Salem's lawyer, told Lisbon radio TSF the Supreme Court upheld his appeal against extradition. He did not provide details.

Court officials could not be reached after office hours.
