Goolam Vahanvati is new Solicitor General of India

New Delhi: The Centre today (June 18, 2004) announced the appointment of Advocate General of Maharashtra Goolam E Vahanvati as the country's next Solicitor General.

Vahanvati's appointment, is for a period of three years from today, an official release said here.

A legal luminary, Vahanvati was made Advocate General of Maharashtra in December 1999.

He represented the State in the Public Interest Litigation filed in relation to the Telgi scam, it added.
