Army recovers greeting card bombs from JK ultras Saturday, June 19 2004 17:26 Hrs (IST)
Jammu:
Uncovering yet another security threat, Army troops recovered greeting card bombs from militants who were apparently planning to target several important cities including Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
Army troops have recovered two greeting cards carrying bombs from a top deputy commander of Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM), Abdul Haider, and his bodyguard Abu Wahid, who were killed in an encounter with troops in Surankote belt of Poonch district, official sources said today (June 19, 2004).
The "attractive-looking" greeting card bombs are set off as soon as they are opened, they said.
"This is new security threat to VVIPs in the State as well as other parts of the country," they said, adding that after recovery of the bombs the entire security network has been informed of the new design of militants.
The photos and maps recovered from the slain ultras reveal that they were planning to target security installation in different parts of the country, they said.
The photos indicate that they had done a recce of several places like Mumbai and Ahmedabad and had plans to target these cities.
Besides, the security forces have also seized a pocket diary containing names and telephone numbers of journalists working with foreign agencies.
Earlier, security forces had seized pen bombs and transistor bombs, but the greeting card bomb seems to be a new ISI plan.
Such greeting cards carrying mini bombs were also recovered by BSF in Rajouri district in January this year.
