Cauvery water from Kabini reservoir reaches TN Sunday, June 20 2004 13:50 Hrs (IST)

Water released from Kabini reservoir in Karnataka on Thursday (June 17, 2004) last, has at last reached Billigundlu, the entry point of Cauvery waters into Tamil Nadu at about 1 p.m. today (June 20, 2004), official sources said.
The sources said the water would take nearly eight hours to reach Mettur Stanley reservoir.
Billigundulu is the place where the officials of Central Water Commission monitor the inflow of water.
Officials said the inflow was now to the tune of 3000 cusecs and water level at Billigundlu, which was 3.4 metres in the morning, was now 3.45 metres.
This morning at 10 a.m. the water level at Mettur stood at 40.5 feet against its full capacity of 120 ft. The inflow into the reservoir was to the tune of 1856 cusecs, while the outflow was merely 50 cusecs.
Karnataka, which had released the water at Kabini at the rate of 3,000 cusecs on Wednesday last, had stepped up the rate the next day to 25,000 cusecs.
