Dubai: An Indian national has been arrested in the emirate of Sharjah for allegedly murdering a Sri Lankan woman and dismembering her body into several pieces, police said.

The Indian, who was not identified, had been living with the woman, who worked as maid in several homes, for the last one year, police were quoted as saying by the 'Gulf News'.

The Indian claimed that he killed the maid for insulting Islam, the report said, adding the man dismembered her body into several pieces before disposing them of in plastic bags.

The name of the victim has also not been revealed but police said she was in her mid 30s.

The victim's dismembered body was found in rubbish bags in al-Nasiriyah in Sharjah on Friday (Jun 18, 2004) by refuse collectors working for Sharjah Municipality.

The victim, who was on housemaid's visa, had been working in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) for several years.
