Telgi's driver arrested by CBI; gets PC till July 5
Monday, June 21 2004 17:17 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today (June 21, 2004) arrested Daniel, driver of Abdul Karim Telgi, prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam, on the charge of aiding and abetting the syndicate in a case registered in 1995 here.

He was arrested from Telgi's native place Khanapur in Karnataka and brought here for remand in a case of seizure of counterfeit stamp papers.

Daniel was produced before Special Judge U D Salvi who remanded him to police custody till July 5.

Prosecutor Pradeep Gharat, seeking his custody, alleged that Daniel had participated in the conspiracy and had knowledge about the counterfeit stamps and notes being circulated by Telgi's syndicate in the market.

CBI needed to question Daniel and his custodial interrogation was absolutely necessary, Gharat argued.
