Chambal dacoit queen hints at joining politics Tuesday, June 22 2004 21:16 Hrs (IST)
Kolkata:
Chambal dacoit queen Seema Parihar, who would soon make history as the first ever person in the world to play herself in a movie, today (June 22, 2004) gave indications that she would toe her idol Phoolan Devi into the political arena 'when the time is ripe'.
The undertrial, in the city on bail from the Etawah Central Jail in Uttar Pradesh, to promote the Hindi-English bilingual film 'Wounded' said she would take the plunge when the time comes.
"I have been approached by all major political parties but have not given a consent to anyone. However, I will decide on joining politics when I think it is time," Parihar, accused in at least 15 cases of murder, dacoity and kidnapping told reporters.
The notorious lady dacoit, whose name instils fear even among the gangs operating in the rugged terrains of Chambal, said the film directed by Krishna Mitra would be a true portrayal of her life and all women who take to crime as a last resort or out of compulsion.
"There is no question of distortion of facts in the movie as I am playing myself. Not simply that, a number of my other real life partners and relations would also play themselves," she said.
Encompassing 18 years of her eventful life from a 13-year-old when she was kidnapped by the notorious Chambal dacoits Lala Ram and Kusma Nain to her surrender in November 2000, the movie to be released in October would also have Kanhaiya Kaitvas and Manohar Teli from the National School of Drama in the lead.
