Laloo examining Godhra carnage from Railways' angle
Tuesday, June 22 2004 14:31 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Railway Minister Laloo Prasad today (Jun 22, 2004) said he was looking into the Godhra train carnage in which 58 people were burnt to death from the angle of what Railways did or did not do in the incident.

"We are looking into whatever is related to our department. I am getting it examined what the Railways did and what they did not," he told a delegation of Minorities from Godhra who called on him in Delhi.

The delegation was accompanied by noted film-maker Mahesh Bhatt who said that the Muslims in Godhra were still frightened and an atmosphere of suspicion continued to prevail there.

The delegation complained to the Railway Minister that minorities in Gujarat were being harassed by those investigating the incident and asked Prasad to get the probe conducted by the Railways instead of the State Government.
