Tuesday, June 22 2004 15:22 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: A sensation was created at the Rashtrapati Bhawan today (Jun 22, 2004) after it received a parcel containing a country made pistol and a cartridge addressed to the President.

The parcel was addressed to President A P J Abdul Kalam and was received at the Rashtrapati Bhawan this morning, police sources said.

The packet had apparently come from Bihar, they said.

An investigation has been launched.

The parcel carried the sender's name and address as 'Mahesh Sav, Village Mujahidpur, PO Box Pirsawa, Patna', a Rashtrapati Bhawan spokesman said.

The pistol and cartridge were detected during X-ray scanning of the package, he said, adding it had been handed over to police for further action.
