MDMK not to join UPA Govt at the Centre, says Vaiko
Tuesday, June 22 2004 11:54 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: MDMK (Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) general secretary Vaiko today (Jun 22, 2004) said that there was no change in his party's stand of not joining the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre.

Vaiko, who returned to Chennai after a nearly three week visit to the USA, told reporters at Chennai airport that his party's executive had decided not to join the Government. Hence, there was no change in the MDMK's position.

Asked about the repeal of POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act), he said that the Centre was working out the modalities in this regard. "I do not want to comment beyond this," he said.

Vaiko, who has a POTA case against him, had been permitted to go to the US on June two by the Madras High Court. He had sought permission of the court on May 28.
