Thennala Balakrishna Pillai made Kerala PCC chief Wednesday, June 23 2004 16:05 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Thennala Balakrishna Pillai was today (June 23, 2004) made the new Kerala PCC President in place of P P Thankachan, a nominee of K Karunakaran, amid indications of a major Cabinet reshuffle in the State soon after the Assembly session, scheduled to begin on June 25.
The announcement was made by senior Congress leader and political secretary to the Congress president, Ahmed Patel, who is also the in-charge of Kerala.
Senior leader A C Jose has been made vice-president in the new Kerala PCC set-up which will have three general secretaries.
The revamp in the organisation came in the wake of the party's unprecedented rout in the State in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections.
Chief Minister A K Antony was recently in Delhi during which he had a series of meetings with party chief Sonia Gandhi and other senior leaders including Patel.
After these meetings, Antony had said whatever decision the high command would take for strengthening the organisation in the State would be acceptable to him.
