Stamp scam: Telgi's key aide arrested in Mumbai Thursday, June 24 2004 22:42 Hrs (IST)

CBI today (June 24, 2004) arrested a person alleged to be the key aide of fake stamp scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi from Mumbai who was involved in fake stamp cases being investigated by CBI in Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.
Terming the arrest of Abdul Gafoor Mujahid as a major breakthrough, a CBI spokesman said he was arrested in Mumbai by a special CBI team sent from Bhopal.
The arrested person on behalf of Telgi had arranged official premises for M/S Malwa Enterprises at Indore, a front company of Telgi.
In the initial stages, he had selected local candidates as executives through interviews and even newspaper advertisements were also published for recruiting marketing executives and other employees for the front company, the spokesman said.
He was over all incharge of operations on behalf of Telgi for sale of fake stamps in Madhya Pradesh and was the key person in setting up infrastructure for the business of fake stamps in that state, the spokesman said and added that Gafoor had alleged involvement in similar operations in Delhi.
He has been taken to Indore where the CBI would carry out a detailed questioning.
