NDA will break if BJP toes Hindutva line: NTC Thursday, June 24 2004 20:29 Hrs (IST)
Kolkata:
Assailing BJP's (Bharatiya Janata Party) hint at returning to the Hindutva fold, NDA (National Democratic Alliance) ally Nationalist Trinamool Congress (NTC) today (June 24, 2004) warned that the alliance would break if the saffron party went ahead with this "totally unacceptable" agenda.
"This Hindutva line is totally unacceptable to us. NDA will break up because apart from BJP and Shiv Sena, none can afford to alienate the minorities," Saugata Roy, a senior NTC leader and party legislator told.
He made these observations when asked to comment on BJP signalling a return to Hindutva at its National Executive meeting and deciding to launch an offensive against political forces who oppose Hindutva.
"If BJP takes this line, they can never expect to rule the country again", Roy, a former Union Minister, said.
Trinamool General Secretary Mukul Roy said, ''We had not discussed the matter at the party meeting, it may be the BJP's line, but we will convey our feelings at a future NDA meeting.''
