Srinagar:
Bodies of slain Indian Railway Construction (IRCON) engineer Sudhir Kumar Kundir and his brother Sandeep were today (June 26, 2004) flown to Uttar Pradesh in a special IAF plane, official sources said.
The wife and mother of the engineer accompanied the bodies on the special plane that left here for Sarsawa in Saharanpur, the sources said.
Bodies of the deceased were brought from Pulwama district to Srinagar's police control room, where wreaths were laid on the mortal remains.
Enroute the Srinagar airport, the bodies were taken to railway bhavan at Tulsibagh in uptown city where senior railway officials and employees of IRCON paid their last respects to the departed souls.
As a mark of tribute to the assassinated engineer, wreaths were laid on behalf of the State Governor Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha on their mortal remains.
Sinha condemned the killings, describing it as the handiwork of those attempting to retard the peace process and halt the development effort in Kashmir.
The assassinated engineer had come to the valley to serve its people and contribute in the speedy completion of vital rail link project, he said, adding the people of Kashmir have always felt dejected over such acts that bring bad name to their glorious traditions.
The Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed visited the police control room and laid wreaths on the mortal remains of the slain engineer and his brother who were abducted on Wednesday from Awantipora in Pulwama district and were killed yesterday.
