Jamali denies reports that he is on the way out Saturday, June 26 2004 14:03 Hrs (IST)
Islamabad:
Brushing aside reports that he was on his way out, Pakistan Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said he has neither resigned nor has anyone asked him to quit.
People should believe when the Prime Minister is saying something and it is improper for him to keep clarifying on day-to-day basis about his post, Jamali told reporters yesterday (Jun 25, 2004).
Local daily 'The News' had reported yesterday that Jamali is likely to be replaced before July 3, the day when President Pervez Musharraf embarks on a tour of Scandinavian nations.
"Efforts are afoot to complete the whole process including the exit of the incumbent Prime Minister, installation of the new man and a vote of confidence for him from the National Assembly before the President leaves for abroad," the daily said.
According to political analysts, Musharraf is unhappy with the 60 year-old Prime Minister's performance and his failure to endorse his policies strongly.
Jamali's tenure has witnessed a confrontation between the President and the Opposition parties on the Army's role in the country's politics.
