'Agreement on J&K has to be acceptable to Kashmiris'
Saturday, June 26 2004 13:51 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Ahead of the Foreign Secretary-level talks, Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri today (June 26, 2004) said that any agreement on Jammu and Kashmir has to be one that is acceptable to the Kashmiri people.

"Whatever is agreed on Kashmir has to be acceptable to the people of Kashmir," he told a Pakistani television channel.

The Minister also felt that Kashmiris in J&K and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) should be allowed to meet each other and saw nothing wrong in Kashmiri delegations coming to Pakistan. "We will meet everyone."

India is preparing to present a comprehensive package of proposals for co-operation in specified areas while discussing Jammu and Kashmir and on military Confidence-Building Measures (CBMs) at the two-day talks beginning tomorrow but has made it clear that there will be no compromise on its basic position on J&K.
